But then again, I only have to put up with frost or snow on the windshield about once a year! There's some kind of new blade out now - silicone I think. My mech/car kid was talking about them, as he put a pair on his car. As I recall the big difference is it's a single piece that conforms to the windshield, not just a blade refill. Not cheap. And I don't know how it lasts, but he said it was good so far. I'll have to ask him. First thing I noticed with the '93 Grand Am I'm getting in shape. Put a battery in it, and started it to take it for a ride. Turned on the wipers - SCREECH. Rubber blade separated and metal arm on the windshield. Damn kids. It's a car I bought for my daughter for her college commuting. She don't want it, since she's a bigshot school teacher now. Even the Lumina I'm driving has a wiper scratch. That was my son's. Bought it from him when he moved to Australia. And he sold it to me with a screeching wiper. I just don't understand that. --Vic |

Be glad when all this Christmas crap is done, and the weather starts to warm up a little. Went up to the cabin today to check on a break in. Snowshoed half a mile in 19 degree balminess. Window was only removed, nothing taken. Nothing there of value to take. Yard sale furnished, and we never leave any guns or money or jewelry. So, we put signs out stating that. Ready to start some boat mods, and upholstery, woodwork, and carpeting. Steve, xtreme sw Utah Damn, that's chilly. Glad nothing was taken. My SIL's car was broken into in front of his house night before last. Lost his IPOD. -- John H It's snowing like a big dog there as we speak. Two to four feet expected. We got in just in time. I live at 3900', and there's a lot of snow in the adjacent mountains at 5,000' elev. Cabin is at 7500. We just made it. The "thieves" (real pros) pried the sliding section of the window up. There are two marks on the bottom rail. There was one of those screw clamps on it, and the little lever lock was engaged. So much for security. But, they WERE pros, and did not even break the glass. They DID trash the screen, but those are cheap. We just slid the window back in and locked it AGAIN. The window was sitting on the bench seat for the dining table, pretty as you please. Amateurs would have smashed the window. We did have fun carrying a full sheet of 1/2" plywood 1/4 mile uphill through a foot of snow, though. Doors were opened, but locked tool cabinet was not pried open. We left signs on the outside, "NO GUNS, MONEY, OR JEWELRY INSIDE" AND "YARD SALE INTERIOR DESIGN, SAVE YOUR TIME". Steve Guess I'm lucky. It could have been much worse. Steve |

Steve, xtreme sw Utah I love this sort of weather, but here it only got into the low 40s last night. -- Nom=de=Plume It was about 25F here this morning and we had a few inches of snow yesterday. Found my windshield wipers frozen to the windshield so I turned on a neat accessory I haven't had in past vehicles.. It's a heating element in the lower windshield just to free up wiper blades. That great option plus the heated mirrors and back window defroster all worked as advertized. Must admit...this RAV4 is well equipped for a 'basic model'. In this part of the world, when we hit our windshield wipers, they go all to pieces, getting used only once a year or so. Today is rainy, and I bet the cheap auto stores are busy selling wiper blades, and people installing them on the spot. I never understood it. Repeatedly putting cheap blades on there, when you can go to NAPA and get Anco or similar and they last for many years. A few bucks more, but per year cheaper. Steve Here's the deal. Wiper blades that don't get used real often take a 'set' from being pressed against the window while in the 'off' position. Then, when activated, the blade is moving across the window but not angling back and forth like it should. This causes the blade to hop and skip and make noises. Try this: Take the rubber blade out of the blade holder and turn it end for end. Put it back in. Now try the wipers. They'll seem like brand new ones. Don't know why it took me so long to figure that out. Now my blades last twice as long. -- John H I'll try that. I don't have trouble with them hopping, just going into two to four pieces. Steve |

Snowing here today in SW Utah. Snow forecast down to San Bernardino,

Amazing and beautiful. The t-cat was doing fine in the snow, very carefully walking out to a stump that makes a good viewing spot, and all of a sudden disappeared into the snow, then flew out and headed home. I guess dummy forgot about the small pond... lol Did you name your stump...stumpy? Rob |
