Extreme boating traffic
For Thanksgiving, took the Tolman to Jacksonville, FL and launched at
a place called "Oak Harbor" ramp just south of Mayport on creek leading into the ICW. We went north to the St John's River and then out to it's mouth. I saw more boating traffic in an hour than I normally see in a year and was told there was no traffic at all. Huge ships, shrimpers, ferry boats and vessels of all kinds. It is really a shock for those of us who normally boat in isolated places to go to such congested areas. Went upriver to the newish suspension bridge over the river to see more ships. It is an interesring area with lots of places to go but crowded from my perspective. Sat. night, went downtown to see the boat light parade which was kinda nice but very crowded to watch. |
