George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of
Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and
humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of
Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to
the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and
prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many
and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an
opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their
safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of
November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the
service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author
of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then
all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His
kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to
their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the
favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and
conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility,
union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and
rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish
constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and
particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and
religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of
acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the
great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers
and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech
Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all,
whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and
relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National
Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a
Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and
faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns
and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to
bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the
knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase
of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind
such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October,
A.D. 1789.

----

And to all you freakin' Knuckleheads on rec.boats, a Happy
Thanksgiving to everybody - and I do mean EVERYBODY.

There has to be at least one time we can all be civil to each other
even if it's only temporary. :)
Very gracious of you, SW Tom. Have a nice holiday.
Like I said Harry - one day of the year we can all be civil to each
other.

I sincerely hope you and yours have a healthy and happy Thanksgiving
and a prosperous future.

Peace. Out.
Well since it is no longer Thanksgiving, all I have to say is you are a
low life, brain-dead invalid, who if was on fire, I would not waste my
time to **** on you.
There aren't enough bad things in this world that can happen to you at
the same time to satisfy my hard, cold hate for what you are - a
lying, deceitful, thoughtless, socially inept, intellectually
deficient low life sociopathic cretin bereft of any sense of morals or
integrity. It amazes me that you've managed to live as long as you
have - you have a unique talent able to **** off anybody who crosses
your path intentionally or accidentally. I suspect that the only
reason you are still living and breathing is because you hide under
your desk and never leave the confines of your house unless escorted
by a woman so you can hide behind her skirt.

However hope springs eternal. I'm a firm believer in karma - put
another way, what comes around goes around and someday horrible things
will happen to you - hopefully in succession - and you will receive
no succor from me for I will be laughing at you when life and fate
decide that you aren't worth the trouble. I won't take the time to
dance on your grave though because I suspect that your final resting
place will be a toxic waste dump - no decent burial facility would
want to take responsibility for poisoning their grounds by accepting
your remains.

You are beneath contempt and unworthy of any type of social courtesy.

So bye bye Harry - it's back into the really neat nifty header and
content filter for you - never to be seen again.

PS: I opened up the filter this morning and noticed that you turned
yourself inside out trying to get my attention by posting to every
thread I was involved in and even some insulting and distasteful
headers - I was highly amused. I was even more amused that you
couldn't attract any attention to them either - apparently everybody
else is catching on to the good old shunning technique.

Ta ta - have a truly nasty unfulfilled and disease ridden rest of your
life.

ROTFLMAO!! This one is a keeper!! Thanks, whoever you are;)

You were both Punked!

Yup.

If you are flajim, herring, loogy, GC boater, johnson, topbassdog, rob,
achmed the sock puppet, or one of a half dozen others, you're wasting
your time by trying to *communicate* with me through rec.boats, because,
well, you are among the permanent members of my dumbfoch dumpster, and I
don't read the vomit you post, except by accident on occasion. As
always, have a nice, simple-minded day.
