You didn't happen to hear a high pitched whistle did you? I've never
seen blue whales, but I've been given to understand that when you see
this, you can hear the high frequency sound waves.

One other question - did you see much hash on the sounder?

Krill will show up as hash on my Furuno. As to Whales, we had a Blue
about 75' surface next to the 85' boat near the Coronado Islands off MX.
Fantastic sight. Looked like a submarine surfacing. I have had Humpbacks
about 35-40' surface next to my 21' boat. Scary when they blow and you
are not knowing they are next to you and it is quiet and you are drifting
with motor off.. Friend in her 32' boat had one surface under the boat.
She said that was scary. Boat tilted.
My fish finder screen was totally filled.

I have had whales submerge and go under the boat, and the screen goes dark.

Interesting - and very cool video.

The only experience I've had with whales was a long time ago when a
pod of humpbacks came up under a boat trolling for tuna East of
Martha's. Broke the boat's shaft struts off and the boat started to
sink. A couple of us took the crew off and two other guys slung the
boat between them to keep it afloat until the CG and Sea//Tow could
get there. Salvaged the boat, but it was close. :)

You see humpbacks every once in a while in large pods move through the
tuna fleet from time-to-time. See 'em all the time out by the Sub
Bouy off The Race. I've often wondered why you've never heard of a
sub whale collision out there.

Damn! The birds are insane! Was there someone in a kyak out there
close in the first clip? I'd have a coronary event if I were that
close in a kyak...

Incredible to hear the breathing. I've heard orcas breathing, the
blue sounds much deeper.

The location is on the video description. This was just off the coast
of Santa Monica Bay, Los Angeles, California. Between 5 and 10 miles out.

The local fisherman who told me of this told me Monday was the best day.
He said it was much larger Monday. People were being splashed by
flukes. It had been going on for three days.

To have this go on this close to shore is very unusual. No one I've
talked to has seen it before.

There were several kayaks and paddle boards. A lot of people think
swimming with whales is cool, I think they shouldn't interfere with
wildlife.

Our company was founded in Santa Monica. 4th and Broadway, off the
promenade.

Miss the Wednesday farmers market where I could get a big bag of basil
for a buck.

I thought the coastline looked familiar...
