I usually win at the 10/20 poker table. I wear a tee-shirt that says
California on it. Also, I only drink orange juice, but it looks like a
screwdriver. I don't have the stomach for higher stakes.

What's the point of the California t-shirt? Is it lucky?

I think it means to some a level of naivety, but I'd rather be lucky. Also,
it really helps to be a woman at the table. They just can't believe I know
anything about odds or have the ability to bluff.

Good for you. Never spent time playing poker other than with friends
and a bunch of beer. Uncomfortable to go head to head with strangers.

I'm way more comfortable at the blackjack table with them dealing out
of shoe. If you're playing with folks who know when to bet, you can
get the dealer on a roll and parlay several bets into a decent sum.

I've spent too much time there. Between having customers there and
attending trade shows too frequently, gaming has lost its attraction.
I'm more interested in the food these days...

Er...wrong link. My bad.

Thank God. I was feeling especially stupid, or disenfranchised, or
something. I initially thought it was an ad for Viagra - something to
help the viagrus nerve. But then...oh ****, never mind.

I never play blackjack. Even though it's technically possible to win
consistantly, I don't like to rely solely on the odds.

You can't be human and rely solely on the odds.

I guess that's why they say that the house always wins.

Best odds in the house is the craps table.

When they deal out of a shoe at a blackjack table, the dealer can go
on a run that lasts -- as long as others at the table recognize when
to hit and when to stay. I can normally stay pretty even until I
recognize a streak and then parlay for several hands.

It works for me. I like it better than bluffing some poor sucker out
of his money -- although it all comes from poor suckers anyway.

Like buying meat in a package instead of harvesting it directly.

Ahh. The old days. I grew up in Vegas, and worked the "joints" in the
sixties when "The Boys" ran the places. Food and beverage and rooms were
expected to just break even. The money was made on the tables. Then
corporations came in, and now they have no drinking fountains, or if they
do, it's a buck fifty.

That's a five day trip. No more than $50 per hand.

Five day trip? I usually go for a long weekend at most. The typical hand,
assuming I'm in to the end could easily reach several hundred dollars,
especially if there's more than one drunken dentist at the table. (For some
reason drunken dentists are the worst at poker... not sure why.)

Brave girl.

Been to Vegas twice in the last five years...gambled $10 in the slots,
won and walked away with $20 the first time and $23 the second time.
What a bloody awful city. Bellagio dinner buffet, though, was decent.

Was up in Atlantic City a couple weeks ago...it's worse than Vegas,
although the hotel wasn't bad...Harrah's.
