Default How we got to where we are now

Just finished a very good, "Sit in the cockpit and read," book. Taught
me a lot, and I'll guarantee that some of the most vocal posters to this
group will learn a lot too.

"Crazy for God," by Frank Schaeffer. Can be purchased from Amazon.com
for 10 bucks, and is well worth it in many ways.

http://www.amazon.com/Crazy-God-Help...1581674&sr=1-1

Check it out, you'll be glad you did, no matter which side of the
political divide you are on.

There is nothing more abhorrent or more detrimental to our politics than
the attempts of the religious on the far right to use their mistaken
interpretations of the so-called New Testament to control society.

Found on Page 6:

"This is a memoir, not a biography. (I have also changed some people's
names to protect the more or less innocent.) To footnote this story or
to have done research into dates and places and to correct the
chronology would have been to indulge the conceit that my book is an
objective history. It is not. What I've written comes from a memory
deformed by time, prejudice, flawed recall, and emotion."

You learned a lot from deformed memories...... well..... OK, whatever
floats your boat......

What else is organized religion *but* a compilation of memories deformed
by time, prejudice, flawed recall and emotion.

The book turns out to be well written by a very honest man, who might
not have been so honest when power and money were placed before him.

Many of the right wing posters here probably have some of his older
books and movies that he was famous for.

His views on home schooling is interesting as he was partly responsible
for the religious home schooling movement.

The first construction, though unorthodox and unconventional, had a
more favorable ring to it.

Well, I messed that sentence up again.

His views on home schooling are interesting.

And they are, since he's held up as an example. His education was mostly
ignored and his ignorance in some subjects later held him back.
