really? from 'wikipedia'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PGM-19_Jupiter

In October of 1959, the location of the third and final Jupiter MRBM
squadron was settled when the Government to Government agreement was
signed with Turkey. United States and Turkey concluded an agreement to
deploy one Jupiter squadron on NATO's southern flank.

One squadron totaling 15 missiles was deployed at 5 sites near İzmir,
Turkey from 1961 to 1963. They were operated by U.S. Air Force
personnel.

so the missiles were PLANNED to be deployed BEFORE kennedy took
office.

moreover, given the massive amount of soviet hardware in europe, the
only way to tactically balance forces was by the use of nuclear (for
you right wingers, that's 'nukular') missiles

And the Bay of Pigs, what kind of moron would agree to such a thing
AND then not support it once it was going? Â*Pure Kennedy cowardice.-

actually it was stupidity. the cuban missile crisis showed that
kennedy had the cojones to go toe to toe with the russkies.

Jack Kennedy CAUSED the Cuban missile crisis by putting Jupiter
missiles in Turkey less than 100 miles from the Soviet Union. Anybody
with more than 2 neurons would have expected the Soviets to respond in
kind. Guess what, the agreement for resolving the crisis was that the
Soviets remove their missiles AND the USA would remove the missiles
from Turkey. I'd say Krushev was the hero in that Crisis by backing
down. I hate thinking good of the Soviets but in that case they were
right.

The President is Commander in Chief, those missiles in Turkey need
never have been deployed. Kennedy could have stopped it at any time
but he stupidly went along with it due to his own "missile gap"
rhetoric in the 1960 campaign. Furthermore, Kennedy knew there was no
missile gap as did Nixon (this had been revealed by direct photo-
reco). However, Nixon could not reveal there was no missile gap
without violating security. Thus, Kennedy had a hand in greatly
increasing the arms race. Another reason he went along with the
Turkey missiles is because he was afraid of Curtis Lemay who was truly
crazed. Lemay really did want a nuke war with the Soviets and he
thought Kennedy was a wimp.
So, Kennedy caused the Cuban Missile Crisis because he HAD NO COJONES
to stand up to Lemay. Seriously, the cowardice of Kennedy nearly
caused a nuke war. The only person who actually will look good to
historians in this will be Krushev.

And what does this latest bit of insanity of yours have to do with
herring's incompetency as an army officer or with Teddy Kennedy's life
as a stellary U.S. Senator?

Frogbreath isn't a student of history. The decision to deploy Jupiter
missiles in Turkey was made during the Eisenhower administration, upon
the recommendations of the Department of Defense. Frogbreath's
"recollection" of Kennedy's motivations is faulty or skewed by his
right-wing extremist viewpoint.

yep. prohibition was a right wing moralistic crusade. glad he took
advantage of it.

Joe, made most of his money in the stock market. Ran up the money during
the runup to the 28 crash. Was smart enough to see it was a bubble and
bailed out with the money. Probably made a bunch more on the decline.

During election time, Sen. Ted Kennedy is the first one in the polling
place . He draws the curtain shut, and is in there for a couple hours.
One of the election judges asks another what's going on?

Hey what's up with the Senator?

I don't know.

Well, go find out.

OK.

So a judge walks up to the booth to inqui

"Excuse me Senator, are you OK?"

"Yeah, whats the problem.?"

"Well Senator, we're concerned that you've been in there for almost
two hours.."

"So? I'm just getting started."

"Well Senator, I'm not trying to rush you, but there are others who
need the booth to vote as well."

Then the embarassed Senator said:

"Vote? Oh my! I thought this was a Confessional!"

All joking aside. Even though we're on the oposite sides of the isle,
thank you for your long lasting service to the country Senator. You
will be missed.

Yep - as did my maternal grandparents.

Made a regular run from some little burg in Ontario on the Lake Huron
side down Lake Michigan to Milwaukee and by road down to Chicago.

Gramps brother was a brewmaster and had a brewery hidden in my Uncle
Dave's barn outside of Racine. :) Later became Miller's Chief
Brewmaster after Prohibition.

Later gone liberal and legit, sort of?

Yep. :)

If I am ever in MA, I will make a real attempt to spit on his grave in
the name of all those who died as a result of his corruption and
misguided ideas. I would be neutral toward Jack Kennedy's grave, he
was simply stupid. I have no feelings about Robert Kennedy. However,
Ted is deserving of a special sort of contempt. Hey, maybe I can get
arrested for spitting on his grave, that'd be cool.
Now, if only Barney Frank would get Kaposi's sarcoma............
