![]() "Gould 0738" wrote in message ... I bought a set of mooring whips (Monarch MMW I) at a garage sale. How exactly do you use them? They are not (for some reason or other) used where I am, so I don't even have anything to look at. When you pull up to the dock and it's pouring down rain, the deck hands will be reluctant to go out and set the fenders, rig the lines, and perform their assigned chores during the landing. Nothing inspires quick cooperation like the judicious application of a mooring whip. Geez, these are 14' and real stiff. I can't see using them like that! Real answer: They enable your boat to "stand off" from the dock when you don't have any outboard pilings to tie to. The Monarch website says: "The bow and stern lines are tied to a piling, cleats, or the bulkhead (if there is no dock) and the two spring lines criss-cross. These lines are for control of fore and aft movement." I haven't any idea what they are saying. What lines are necessary, and where do they go. It is for a 15' sailboat. |
