A New Day for 'Ultra-Compassionates'

Aug 17, 2009

Looking to reshape the narrative in light of the fury of negative
feedback in recent townhall meetings across the country, the Obama
administration has decided to undergo further wordsmithing in an
effort to win hearts and souls. The President's newly appointed
Compassion Czar, Robert Loveless, pointed out that certain 'sobriquet'
that have been used in the national conversatioin in recent weeks to
describe Americans that have vehemently expressed opposition to the
administrations health care reform initiatives will be replaced by
more empathetic appellations. Instead of using terms such as idiots,
teabaggers, lamebrains, brown-shirts, morons, @*%$-for-brains,
numbskulls, gangsters, and terrorists, the new tack will be to replace
the verbiage with terms such as "concerned citizens" or "caring
neighbors." "We decided that if we are going to project ourselves as
being truly compassionate that we were going to have to portray that
image, not just give it lip service," said Loveless, who has a entire
panel of wordsmithers that he has assembled from select members of the
liberal student body at Columbia University to try to hammer out
language that elicits a harmonious tone. Said Loveless, "This is a
formidible task, to be sure, in light of the fact that such language
of commiseration and empathy is foriegn to us. But, when you're
talking about finding ways to actually be compassionate in your speech
in addressing over half of the American population, you have to
marshall all possible resources to find the appropriate language. In
fact, our first step was to rename ourselves, those that have
unfortunately expressed our antipathy for bitter-clingers (just
kidding). Liberals, progressives, socialists, and leftists are now
"ultra-compassionates." When asked how many terms his word-force had
been able to find so far that might replace the more pejorative
language, Loveless said, "So far, only two. Like I mentioned,
actually being compassionate is a new game for us."

I tried to hammer this thing out in about 10 minutes this morning

I like your last paragraph, except the day at the office bit. Can I
borrow it? My spelling is not so good and it seems to bother some folks
here. I am using Thunderbird and the spell checker is lousy.

Yup. Microplanet Gravity. I actually don't mind the spelling errors in
lieu of the filters that allow me to filter wafa and his buddies, AND
any post replying to them. All without plonking those who occasionally
leave some of their tripe in a post...

Well worth it in my opinion...

My problem isn't so much spelling as it is making errors in editing.
I'll write a line, and upon further consideration I'll revise it,
changing a word or phrase, quite often leaving behind some
*******ization. And my fingers get ahead of me when I type so that
I'll leave extra vowels in a word. I can read the post over and over
again to proof it; but, inexorably I'll overlook the errors until
after I actually post it. I must be channeling a self-obsessed H. L.
Mencken.

Please forgive the occasional syntax error and the odd typo's in this.
I tried to hammer this thing out in about 10 minutes this morning
while getting ready for a day at the office. And I always proof-read
more capably after I submit the post...

I like your last paragraph, except the day at the office bit. Can I
borrow it? My spelling is not so good and it seems to bother some folks
here. I am using Thunderbird and the spell checker is lousy.

Mencken.

Advice - free.

Don't fret the small stuff. Only Donnie picks up on it, and he'll make
three or four more boo-boos when he criticizes yours.

Gravity is even worse.. You have a choice of leave the bad spelling,
correct to whatever word it suggests, send the message with the errors,
or abort the message completely and try again...

I had downloaded Gravity's executable file, and tried an install. It
hung up twice. Guess I'll download it again.

Yeah, it has a couple of glitches but I like it. Just filtering over 90%

John, remember that thing you posted where there were letters missing,
etc, and how easy it was to read? THAT is why we can decipher Tim's
stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I haven't seen phony spell check police since I filtered the Pink
Army. Most here can figure things out fine...

Exactly! Hey, about Gravity, did you have any problems at installation?
Mine hangs up, asks for a reboot, then after reboot, starts installing
again to the asking for reboot point again!

I think I did, but I don't remember how I got around it... Sorry.

You got to figure it out though, it's great.. I am down to say 20-30
posts a day that I want to read... I had a notification sound set up to
tell me when PA was filtered, but it got too annoying hearing dozen or

a bit about computer networking, can't remember how he set up a usenet
client. And loogy, the rec.boats co-idiot, can't figure it out, either.
