Volvo SX vs. DuoProp - cost difference
 

Can anyone give me a reasonable estimate on the retail price
difference between a Volvo SX outdrive and a Volvo DuoProp outdrive ?

Our bank is being a stickler for $$ and have low-balled the loan on a
new boat we're interested in. The boat has a DuoProp and the dealer
that by swapping it out with an SX, he can make up the shortage in the
loan value. I just want to feel comfortable that he isn't reducing
the boat by 'two dollars' for a 'one dollar' fix.

Also - is the Volvo SX comparable to a Bravo I ... or would it be more
comparable to an Alpha I ??

I'm not sure of the exact price difference but I can tell you that
people like the DuoProp and are quite willing to pay extra for them.
I've got the Mercruiser version of the DuoProp on our runabout and it
greatly reduces the amount of low speed steering wander that most
people experience with single prop I/Os.

Why not increase your down payment a bit to make the bank more
comfortable with the deal?

I can't tell you the difference, but I'd work the dealer, not the bank.
Boats are slow sellers right now... bad economy, and 1/2 way thru the
season. I'd tell the dealer that you want the duoprop, and this is all you
can spend. It sounds like you're pretty close anyway. If they say no, then
walk. They'll call you the next day. Trust me, you're in the driver's seat.

Don't let the excitement of the purchase cloud your judgement when it comes
to the negitiations... the salesfolk rely on emotions to close the deal.
