In honor of you-know-who: aka WAFA
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Norman Matton Thomas (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform." |

Gee, Lu...you discovered norman thomas 40 years after he died. Thomas was a very decent man, and a devout anti-Communist. Bet you didn't know that. Bet you didn't know that George Meany was fiercely anti-Communist. Oh...wait...you don't know who Meany was, right? You must have been a hell of a racist cop. There's nothing wrong with modern socialism. There are a number of prosperous European nations that have adopted socialism and made it their own. -- A wise Latina makes better decisions than a dumb elephant. |

You must have been a hell of a racist cop. Ask the liberal New York Representative who wants to run for New York's senate seat about being racist. There's nothing wrong with modern socialism. There are a number of prosperous European nations that have adopted socialism and made it their own. "Made it their own?" What does that mean? Socialism makes the individual subservient to the the state and destroys liberty in the name of "the social good." |

No wonder he's so fondly referred to as WAFA. Harry's reference to me as a racist cop is over the top. I'm leaving him to this group. Going to switch to one that has some signs of intelligent life. |

Poor Harry has been well indoctrinated in the "attack the messenger" method of debate, common to many lefty liberals. Just watch Olbermann a few times while he yuks it up with his liberal guests, high-fiving each other and sneering at the camera while making derogatory or insulting innuendos or references to those who don't follow his/their "enlightened" path. Harry really is a version of the same thing, but he only has two or three that he can high-five it with here. Most of the more left leaning participants in rec.boats can debate or discuss an issue without resorting to personal attacks. Eisboch |

There's no debate in this newsgroup, just the usual suspect trading slams. 2. When you're dealing with truly stupid people or truly stupid talking points, the best response isn't one filled with facts and figures, but rather snarky dismissiveness. And, no...I don't consider you one of the truly stupid. -- A wise Latina makes better decisions than a dumb elephant. |
