You have got to watch "Torchwood" on BBCA.

On your system, it might be DSCBBC.

It rocks!!!

I've watched a lot of them... they're pretty cool.

The mini-series "Children of Earth" they are doing right now - WHOA!!
Dude - this is some terrific scifi. Russell Davies on the top of his
game - good stuff.

Have you caught any of the Warehouse 13's on SyFy(SciFi)?

Yep - very well done - I like it.

Probably won't last long - another throwaway series like "Invisible
Man" which was pretty good.

What do you think of the re-branding of Sciffy?

Personally I think it's sucks.

I really don't get it.

According to the [loony] channel president, David Howe, "...
[renaming] wasn't an option, it was a mandate. We made a commitment
to grow into a global lifestyle brand. Sci Fi is a genre..... The new
name positions us as having our own attitude and personality, which
gives us permission to do a broader range of sci-fi/fantasy shows and
take us into the supernatural, the paranormal, action-adventure and
mystery space."

It was an GENRE, idiot, you used the term "Sci Fi" to describe it!
That genre has *always* included "the supernatural, the paranormal,
action-adventure and mystery space." Dave, you just created a goofy
name for the position you have *always* been in. Imagine what you
could have done for programming with all of that money spent on
looking "at every single name," creating the perfect URL, trade
marking all of the nonsense, and paying attorneys to do all of the
gyrations that add up to nothing.

I also hear that they were concerned about looking too "geeky." If
they are worried about *image,* maybe they need to drop the
trailer-trash sporting events and create some really good (scifi,
syfy, or whatever) supernatural, paranormal, action-adventure, or
mystery series...... like their "mandate"?

I agree, is so totally sucks..... G-r-r-r-r-r-r.....

Dude - we are totally in agreement - it is genre material and covers
pretty much everything.

The odd thing about it is, Bonnie Hammer when she was President of
SciFi did a good job of branding - heck, Friday nights, SciFi owned
the cable ratings with "Invisible Man", "Farscape" and "LEXX" in the
lineup. You remember the little SciFi bumers with the SciFi monster?
SciFi Santa? That was all her ideas and concepts that worked and
worked well.

And they've done some really good original programming - "Battlestar
Galactica" was a brilliant idea and that was green lighted by her. She
really got the concept by buying the rights to "Bablyon 5" and word
had it that she was going to buy the rights to "Crusade" and
rebrand/remiage it before she was promoted out of the position and the
moron was brougt in who canned the idea. And "Stargate" before that
show went all wahooni shaped.

When you think about it, NBC had a real chance at making some noise
with SciFi, but they blew it big time. All of their really good new
material is coming out of the BBC

Unfortunately, the whole "geek" concept of scifi fans is still
prevelant and to "broaden" the audience in an already crowded arena is
stupid on their part. Us "geeks" kept their stupid channel on the
screen and we're now being handed crap.

Problem for them is guys like me who love SciFi and tuned out the channel.
Have not come back.
