May be evaluating a 28' Larson Cabrio, 1996 with new Volvo engine.
Any opinions on Larson? Reviews I've seen are mixed, with bad reviewsw
focusing on cracking gel coat, galvanized screws rusting, etc.
Opinions?

Larson had a great reputation for runabouts and ski boats for a lot of
years. Then they had a bout of Bayliner disease. I do know that they
are not held with the same high regard as they used to be and it's
mostly related to mechanical issues.

I'm not much for bubble boats - this is a marginal bubble boat meaning
that it has some characteristics of a bubble boat, but it's not a
strict bubble boat. It's a type of "sun deck" cruiser similar in
concept to Sea Rays of the same length.

Other than that, I can't help you much as these type of boats aren't
my area of expertise - I can only relay what I've heard others say
about them and that's second hand - I have no personal experience.
Having said that, a lot of the complaints I've heard are mechanical
rather than cosmetic.

That's a risk with a lot of 13 year old runabouts. It depends on how
they were built and how they were stored. Carpet over plywood floors
is a recipe for disaster.

thanks for the update, wayne. yeah i wasn't clear what specific
construction technique could lead to a problem...the folks who
described this weren't particularly clear.
