Not just coming up with a name...then you have to fuss over thr correct
size, shape & colour of the graphics when you fix the name to your boats
transom.

I never gave it much thought. Mine have been named something like
"18450267 - Al's Resort."
But if you're using VHF wouldn't you want a name?
Easier than reciting a social security number for Maydays, right?

Not to mention...when you belong to a boat or yacht club, it's proper form
to have a unique name for easy indentification.

What transom, dummy? You might even have a bit more real estate on
yours than your leader, WAFA.

It can be serious business to a degree. Larger boats are usually documented
through the Coast Guard National Vessel Documentation Center. There are
specific requirements as to the maximum number of characters that can be
used in a name, as well as restrictions on certain words that can be part of
a name. The vessel's name and hailing port must be prominently displayed in
letters of a minimum size on the exterior of the boat. In addition, the
vessel's documentation number must be permanently affixed to a clearly
visible interior structural part of the hull in such a way that it is not
removable or alterable without being obvious.

In addition, common sense would dictate that you choose a name that can be
easily understood over a radio, although Digital Selective Calling is
perhaps starting to make that somewhat less of a concern.

All my boats have had names that are related to my other long time
hobby - so far, names have been Long Wave, Quarter Wave, Half Wave,
Wave Length, Freguent Sea, Standing Wave, Traveling Wave and of course
good old Short Wave.

Long Wave was used twice - the Contenders. The Grady was christened
Frequent Sea, Half Wave I through IV were all bass boats, Quarter Wave
I and II was the Princecraft and a 18' Lund guide boat, Wave Length
was a Town Class sailboat I owned in high school, Standing Wave was a
18' lapstrake center well lobster boat based on the Swampscott Dory
style lapstrake construction also in high school.

Traveling Wave was a Fortier 26 that I owned for all of two months -
it sank at the dock due to two freak major malfunctions - the intake
hose burst and the stuffing box gave way - both relatively at the same
time. The marina manager said it was fine when he went home, next
morning, it was on the bottom. Never gonna use that name again. :)

My favorite name, of course, is Short Wave and was the original boat
that I inherited from my Dad - a 13' Boston Whaler Sport with a 30
horse Evinrude. The second Short Wave was 17' Montauk which I bought
right after I was discharged from the service - got it used from my
old high school after school boss. The name was never used again
until I bought the Ranger. And of course the business name that is
currently in hiatus.

Next time ask Reggie for one of his 'photograph by numbers' books.
Tells you were to stand, how to point the camera and every setting you need
to make great snapshots.

I saw the last snapshots you posted. They were great. I could tell

Reggie does a pretty damn good job with a camera, but I can see how
you would find room to criticize his photographs. Yours were
