Semper Fi Ed.

Indeed!

"He later joined the Marines and served in World War II and Korea."

Odd, I must have been mistaken. I thought he served on an aircraft
carrier in WW-2.

Thanks Richard. I remember the situation now, Quite some time ago he
was talking on Carson, about how he landed on a carrier in a Corsair.
and after landing, a green deck crewman from "da Bronx" came up to him
and asked "How you fly dat ting wit' dem busted winks?"

or at least thats how I remember the story.....

He was a Marine Corps Instructor/Test pilot and taught carrier flying
with F-9F Panthers. The WWII ended before he got a chance to fly
combat missions.

Korea? Different story - 85 combat missions as an artillery spotter in
one of those O-1B/C (Cessna 170) type aircraft the Marines flew during
Korea.

Probably is one of the best examples of why there are only former
Marines, not ex-Marines.
