It was cool, you will never see anything like that again outside of a museum now I would guess.. ----------------------- Player pianos are still made, although they have electric motors for pumps and the rolls are somewhat hard to come by. There's another option however. We have a Samick Grand Piano in which we had a QRS "Pianomation" system installed. It is mounted behind the keys within the piano and has solenoids that operate the piano hammers. The solenoids follow instructions from a CD disk player in terms of what note to strike with all the parameters associated with playing it manually, (velocity, sustain, etc.) The instructions on the CD are in a proprietary QRS format, however I discovered a free software program that converts digital midi to the QRS format and can now download non-copyright protected classical piano performances from the 'net and play them on the piano. And yes, just like the old player pianos, the keys on the piano are actuated by the QRS system. Little kids eye's bug out the first time they see it. http://www.qrsmusic.com/ Eisboch |

The webhosting software (Sitebuilder) allows you to choose Windows Media Player, Quicktime or Real Audio as the desired player in the properties menu. I selected WMP and published it to the website, but for some reason it goes to Quicktime. I've tried several times now, doing it carefully, so I don't think it's something I am doing wrong. QT, as you have guessed, is pretty much an integral part of using a mac. First, we are talking about .mp3 files, not video files. However, we PC owners prefer .mp4 format movies. High Definition capable. QT will play them. Eisboch You're using QT for sound files? Wow. I prefer *.avi files for movies, even HD movies. Work fine on my HD dvd player and my HD tv. Since that works just fine, I haven't felt a need to experiement. |

They are both processor intensive. |

That may be why the website software is defaulting to it. -------------------- Nope. The guitar file is an .mp3. I have Windows Media Player as the default for .mp3 files. No big deal. I'd just like to know why. Eisboch Your local machine is configured to playback mp3 files using Quicktime. Reconfigure the default settings in your control panel that's used to set default programs. |

You might want to check how it's being converted also - I ran into that with some videos I was compliling recently. Also make sure that you are exporting wma files - QT likes to think that it owns .mp4 files for some reason. |

Thanks but not so. It's configured to play mp3 via WMP. If I select and click on an mp3 in a folder it automatically opens with WMP. Plus, this morning to be sure I checked the default program associations. mp3 is assigned to WMP. I don't understand why the webhosting software gives you the choice of player, but selects QT regardless of selection. No big deal, but it is curious. Eisboch |

Eisboch Maybe a restriction of the webhosting service. They configure servers to support certain file formats. Don't know if this is what's at play in your case but there's potential. |

Not sure it's the server, but I just remembered something. I use Firefox 99.9 percent of the time but had forgotten that it does not support Windows Media Player. I opened the referenced page in Internet Explorer and sure enough, the guitar music is played with WMP and not QuickTime. www.eisboch.com/enter.html If you open the link in Firefox, the mp3 of the guitar will play using QT If you open with IE, it plays with WMP. It's a Firefox thing. Eisboch |

What it did was this: It added play, pause, stop and volume controls to the little mini QT player. Before the plug-in, it played with QT but without the controls. After the plug-in it still played in QT but the controls were added. That was a while ago and on a XP machine. Maybe the newer plug-in actually enables WMP. I'll try it sometime. Eisboch |
