Gotta question for you about the Squeezukies.
Are they made by Suzuki or are they a branded engine from another manufacturer? The reason I ask is that I ran into a really nice ten year old Bass Cat Sabre in mint condition that has been repowered with a Suzuki DF 175 - price is right, it's in really great condition and the engine only has 30 hours on it - two years old. How about parts? There are a few dealers around my area all within 30 miles or so, so I can get it serviced if necessary. I just don't know a lot about the brand - I'll admit it. |

I don't knwo, Tom, but I think Suzuki makes all their own. there's no local Suzuki marine dealers in my area, but they seem quite popular over in my favorite lake area 60 mi from me. |

Bass Cats are my favorite bass boat. Rock solid. Damn straight. Back when I was active on the New England amateur trail, I had a Bass Cat Sabre - loved that boat. And, to really tell the truth, you couldn't ask for a better bunch of people from Rick Pierce on down to the factory guys - wonderful group of concerned and involved business owners. I had a problem with that Sabre - one of the thru-hull fittings leaked internally - I'd pickup 5/6 gallons of water every couple of hours in the hull. *Apparently the supplier of the parts sent some flawed fittings and pipe which wasn't caught immediately. Bass Cat sent a guy up from the factory, picked up the boat, towed it back - two days later there was a brand new Sabre in my driveway because they didn't have time to fix the boat I had, so they swapped the engine out and sent me a new boat. Shortly after that the dealer I bought the boat from went out of business, but Bass Cat stood behind the boat 100%. You can't ask for better service than that. You know, why the hell am I looking at any other kind of boat? Screw this - I'm buying a Bass Cat. *:)- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Hummmm.. Looks like they are in with Evinrude. Can you swap out the engines or did you already sell the Ranger? |

Friend has one, and we were fishing under docks for spotted bass, there were three of us. All three on the same side of the boat leaning towards docks and that thing stayed damn near flat in the water. For a true bass boat that thing rides well, and is solid. They thought of everything for the fisherman too. |

They thought of everything for the fisherman too. It's a well thought out boat no doubt about it. *Godfrey Marine took a page out of their book when they started the Polar line - a lot of the Bass Cat ideas were used in their glass lines of smaller boats. That Sabre I had was a great boat - probably as stable as any of the Rangers I owned over the years and quick as all get out which is something that I appreciate a lot - love the speed. The one thing I didn't like about the Sabre is that it had a tendency to chine walk if you were running WOT and trimmed out for max speed. You can certainly do the same thing in a Ranger or you name it bass boat (Gamblers are famous for that also), but the difference was in how much hull was in the water - with Rangers (or others) you have about six/seven inches of hull touching the surface at the extreme speeds - with the Sabre, it was MAYBE three inches. That's a lot of hull to be flying. *:) Oddly, it didn't happen when you had two people in the boat - only when there was one. *Interesting difference. But over all, they make a terrific boat and they stand behind them 100%. Worst chine walk I ever seen in a boat was an Alumacraft bass boat. 17 foot boat, 135 Merc 2 smoke. A little lake chop and get that thing wound tight, trimmed right and it would happen suddenly, and scare the hell out of you! |
