Gov. Bill Richardson thinks that Barack Obama's first nominee for Supreme
Court — Judge Sonia Sotomayor — is an "excellent choice."

"Her life experienced combined with her legal intellect should make Judge
Sotomayor an outstanding member of the Court," Richardson said in a
statement. "President Obama should be commended for combining diversity and
impeccable legal credentials in his selection."

The governor continued: "The President made an excellent choice in picking
Judge Sotomayor, making her the first Hispanic Justice on the US Supreme
Court," said Richardson.

But would she be the first Hispanic US Supreme Court Justice? Some Talking
Points Memo readers say no, that Benjamin Cardozo was the first Hispanic to
sit on the country's highest court — in the 1930s.
