Thanks. I ended up getting a Canon HF100 just before the trip and am
very pleased with the video/optical quality. Now I need to learn
something about editing. :-)

Any recommendations?

Great video - nice performance on the HD.

Got a little sea sick with the motion though - tough in a moving boat.
Do you have image stabilization? I found with my Canon, that the
image stabilization is very impressive.

With respect to editing, I like the Ulead VideoStudio products -
simple, intuitive and you can get some really outstanding results -
not that expensive either. The new Video Studio X2 is a great program
- I've often compared it to Adobe's Premiere series for producing
really great slide shows and video.

Not being overly critical - if you shoot a lot in automatic rather
than manually adjusting for lighting conditions, I'd look into a
daylight or UV filter - even a neutral density filter - .3 or so would
help even out the darker areas with the light areas.

Just a suggestion - it's fine the way it is.

Eagles used to be fairly rare but I imagine you could see one just
about anywhere these days if you looked. We usually have quite a few
around here at certain times of the year. I saw 4 one morning when I
was doing my water samples right at sun rise flying over the scrub. My
wife used to have a pair that picked through her construction
dumpsters almost every day looking for leftover lunch food right next
to US41.
My buddy says they are seen around DC from time to time and we saw one
in New Hampshire when we were up there. They are all over out west.
They are still a striking bird when one flies over.

Homer Alaska is supposed to be the eagle capital of the world. We were
there in June and we only saw one scrawny eagle that looked too weak
to fly anywhere else. He was hanging around the "eagle lady's" house
there.


The first eagle we ever saw was part of a pair perching at Orange Lake
in Florida. He had a mate, a nest, and a couple of eaglets. Since then,
we've seen a few eagles around here. Beautiful birds. But the most
common predatory birds we seem to have are hawks...big hawks. They must
be eating well.
