My cockpit stinks!

Is there anything I can do about the overpowering smell of swamp water and
feet that hits me every time I take off the cockpit cover on my kayak?

Here in the US, we are so schizoid and deeply opposed to government
censorship that we insist on having unaccountable private parties
to do it instead. -- Bill Cole

Maybe wash your feet? ;-)

It's usually not the kayak but the occupant of said kayak that smells
like feet! :-)

Perhaps a mild soap solution... course that'll probably give you a soapy
smell... do you clean it out? Maybe if you have a pool session near you
swamp it for a bit in the clorine...

And once you get it clean, leave the cover off until it's dry.

Put it on the roof of your car rightside up, dump about 5 gallons of
water and some biodegradable soap in it, put the spray cover over the
cockpit, and drive it around for a week or so*. Then go to a carwash,
dump it out, and rinse it with the high-pressure spray (don't blow
your padding and bracing off).

If that fails, put a car freshener inside. :-)

--riverman

*Not TOO much water....it will affect your car's handling in corners
and braking. Experiment first.

I'm supposed to go a week without paddling? I've got a race in three
weeks!

OTOH, I thought mould was all part of the kayaker's aromoatherapy
experience.
Ther's somehting to be said about the open canoe. Ventilation and
sunlight also
kill moulds.
