Modern navigation is really taking a toll on the old lighthouses.

Please note that Interstate 90 will be closed this weekend across
South Dakota. This closure will allow the Federal Government free
access to haul a 200 ton piece of coal to Mt. Rushmore so that
President Obama can be added to the Presidents on the monument.

There is at least one lighthouse still standing on the Platt River, in
Nebraska. I think it is now a restaurant, it is in use for something.
The Platt is famously said to be " A mile wide, and an inch deep. "
and you don't usually think of it as being navigable.
