Surveying a boat that is 1000 miles away?

I'm looking at buying a boat in Titusville, FL. How does one go about
getting a survey done from a distance? Can anyone recommend a surveyor
in the area that works on fiberglass sailboats?

Thanks.

BE CAREFUL!!!

ONLY hire a surveyor that has been recommended by a known, reputable
source! There are LOTS of bad surveyors out there, including many who are
in cahoots with unethical or clueless brokers.

Last year a friend in WA wanted to buy a boat in CA. He hired 2 surveyors
remotely -- 1 for the hull and 1 for the engines. He got back excellent
reports from both of them. He made an offer on the boat, but was smart
enough to make it contingent on a final inspection by himself. It turns out
the boat was nowhere NEAR the condition reported by the surveyors! He was
out the cost of the round trip to CA, but not the cost of the boat...

Thanks for the advice, but I'm still going to need a surveyor and I don't
have anyone that can recommend one in the area. Do you have any
recommendations for me, either the name of a surveyor, or how to find one
in the area?

Thanks
