Radar reflector mooring buoys
 

Am considering the possibility of maybe getting an agreement with a
local community to put in 6 mooring buoys for use by cruisers.
However, I can imagine the real possibility of fishermen going out in
fog or dark and hitting the buoys or boats attached to them.
So, why not make plastic mooring buoys that contain an internal corner
reflector radar reflector?

Commercial fisherman use something called a "high flyer buoy" to mark
their lines and traps. They have a radar reflector on top of a 3 or
4 foot stick which looks like this:

You could use something like that as the pick-up stick on the mooring
lines. You can also buy small metalized flags from fishing supply
places. They act as radar reflectors at close range, and can be
attached to ordinary pick-up sticks.

It is important that the radar reflector be somewhat elevated,
otherwise it would blend in with other sea clutter on the radar
display.
