Dang, I am so ****ed.
Back in January, I took the Tolman to have her 90 hp Yamaha fixed cuz
it would crank but not start. They (I will report the name of the
business if they do not fix it very soon) supposedly cleaned the carb
jets and a few linkages and got it to work, cost was about $200. I
was never able to test it due to all this medical stuff with my
daughter but today it was finally nice weather so I hooked up the hose
for cooling water and went to start her just to be sure before heading
to the Keys tomorrow. Just like before, she cranks but won't start.
I got spark in top cyl. I even changed out the priming bulb and
fitting in case they were bad and I seem to be getting fuel to fitting
on motor. So, I have to cancel my Keys trip. Not a major disaster
because it was only going to be 4 days but still ****es me off.
So, what would you guess my chances of getting the business to work on
my boat first now that weather is nice.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully you'll get another opportunity. The
good news is that the motor failed in your driveway not someplace out
in the boondocks where you were really counting on it.

Do you have a decent sized fuel filter like this one instaled between
tank and engine?

Everyone ends up with a certain amount of water and dirt in the bottom
of their fuel tank after a while. It will eventually end up in your
engine and cause the kind of problem you are having unless you have a
filter/water separator. I've even installed one on our dinghy and I'm
seeing a lot of other people doing the same thing. West Marine has
them in stock and it's an easy installation.

Yes, I have a filter just like that one.


You have to change out the filter every few years... :)

Sometimes all it takes is one tiny speck of crud that was loosened,
but not quite removed during the cleaning process. That happens
occasionaly. Just as likely, though, you hooked the motor back up to
the same old contaminated gas tank and hose full of the bad gas or
sediment that plugged it up the first time.

engine and cause the kind of problem you are having unless you have a
filter/water separator. I've even installed one on our dinghy and I'm
seeing a lot of other people doing the same thing. West Marine has

I changed it over Thanksgiving 2008.

For the last filter before the engine, you can get pleated paper
filters at the auto store, that have a transparent case. If it looks
bad, it is.
