Sorta depends on where you are leaving from in NJ, where you are going to
in MA and what your cruising speed is.

Not being a wise ass but it could make at least a day's difference.

I went from 40 miles south of Boston (Scituate) to Atlantic City in two
days, stopping overnight in Montauk, LI. Average cruising speed was about
17-19 knots except through the Cape Cod Canal and while trying to find and
leave Montauk in pea soup fog.

April is ok, except you can expect some rough seas. Things don't really
calm down up here until mid May.

The answer depends in part on where in NJ you are going. If south
Jersey, the distance saved going offshore from Montauk Point is
substantial. If North Jersey, particularly in marginal weather, I'd
consider going via Long Island Sound and NY Harbor.

Mid April has a high probability of being cold and windy. The time
required depends entirely on weather, cruising speed of the boat, fuel
range, selected route, etc. This is not a trip to be taken lightly
at any time of year but April is particularly iffy in my opinion.
Regardless, you should be carrying an inspected life raft and a
registered 406 MHz EPIRB. Survival suits would be a good idea as well
since the water is very cold that time of year. Check your insurance
for how far offshore you are allowed to go.
