It's not your cookie, it's Yahoo's. I'm assuming that's who's hosting
your site?

John, I ran AVG on the primary site and had it scan for both cookies and
anything else that would be more serious. None reported. That doesn't
mean none exist, it just means there were none detected on the primary page.

The only thing I can think of is that it is a Yahoo Small Business
webhosting account.
It collects information as to the number of hits, where the viewers are
linking from (if detected), the type of browser used (IE, Firefox, etc.)
and the screen resolution of the majority of viewers.
This info is available in a site management utility that can be used to
optimize how you design your website. I can't tell *who* visits but for
many I can tell where the hits came from (Google search, etc.)

Anyway, I'd be interested in what data you have. I am sure you know that
cookies are harmless and virtually any website have them.

I also can't find any information on a cookie called "BX".

That's what I figured. I explained this in another recent post to John.
Yahoo collects some data to record hits,
where they are linked from, etc. for every page. It's a tool for the
website owner to use to optimize the website.

It's nothing to worry about. Virtually every web hosting service does this,
I was told.

Yup, it's not even persistent. It ends with the session so it can't be
used for tracking.

Yup, it's not even persistent. It ends with the session so it can't be
used for tracking.


I also discovered that I can turn it off in the site management utility.
There really isn't any need to though. It's harmless and I can't access
any detailed information other than the type of browser and resolution
settings used for the majority of visitors.

It's primary purpose to record the number of hits to each page.

I have to clean that site up. Over the years I've added many stand-alone
pages to post pictures and stuff.
Good thing it has unlimited storage.

No. I was cleaning up my cookies when I came across "Eisboch.com". In
the 'name' column was 'BX'. That's all I can tell you.

No sweat. It wasn't a 'nefarious' cookie, just a cookie - like maybe a
sugar cookie. I just mentioned it 'cause I didn't know if you knew.

Well, I found it yesterday, and I haven't been on Eisboch's site for a
few days, as far as I can recall. It must have a 'little' persistence.
