Took my boat out today for a cruise and when I gave it WOT, it sounded like
my prop fell off (it didn't)- RPM's went high and I went no where. Smelled a burning rubber smell from the back of the boat. Was able to idle back to the dock - about 3 miles. Its an '85 Alpha One sterndrive mated to a 470. What is the diagnosis, parts needed for a fix, and time/effort involve? I do have a shop manual and am mechanically inclined. My guess is its some kind of clutch assembly. THANKS!!! |

Most likely just a spun hub in your prop. |

Hello, like the gentelman above said you probably spun the prop, they have a rubber center. if a new prop doesn't cure it i'd have someone check the coupler. the coupler is also rubber and has a splined center that your outdrives driveshaft seats into and can be slipping or spun as well. i'm sure it's one of the two. good luck hope this helps. Brian I doubt he would smell a spun prop. My bet is a wiped out coupler. Look behind the engine for evidence of black, rubber residue. Eisboch |

Eisboch knows about spun engine couplers.
Hint! Hint! If the gears aren't turning, neither is the water pump. "Eisboch" wrote in message ... Brian K wrote in message ...
