If I were ever in a major disaster, I would want it to be in NYC. That
sounds weird, but the point is, New York City has the best disaster
response I've ever seen.

I was wondering, last night, what the results would have been in New
Orleans. Thank God for the quick, efficient work of the folks in NYC,
starting with the ferry boat captains.

Rachel Maddow explained it pretty well. She said, "New York City is is
a place where ordinary citizens will see danger and run TOWARDS it.

That's about all I've ever heard her explain pretty well.

I heard a guy say it a few years ago. A few days after 911 I was
watching a firefighter who had pulled folk out of the towers before
they went down.. He is the way it went down:

About New Yorkers
The fellow was telling a story about being in the hospital
interviewing a firefighter injured on September 11. He said that it
was "just like in a movie". At one point he (the interviewer) thanked
the fallen hero for going into the building with no concern for
himself or his own safety. "The firefighter lifted his head, and with
a thick NY accent said", "Whadidya expect, I'm a New Yorker".

All the first responders in this case were passenger ferrys and tour
boats, not emergency crews. Some were alongside the plane by the time
it stopped moving. Passengers on the ferrys assisted in getting people
aboard and giving their own clothing to try and warm up the extremely
cold and wet folks from the plane.

I only watch Ms. Maddow once or twice a week, but she is definitely the
cat's meow. I'd love to have dinner with her sometime.
