I don't know about La., but my home state is Il. and it was pretty crooked when the first Daly ran it from Chicago, and for a long time before that. I wonder if "getting caught" is all that separates one state from another that way? I always hate OT but since I grew up in IL and went to undergrad in LA (Tulane) I couldn't resist IL (Actually Chicago) has ALWAYS been more corrupt than LA... since the days of Cappone and then the first mayor Daly. They were always just much smarter about not getting caught until the more recent years. BTW.. the city (Chicago) always runs BETTER and more efficiently with a corrupt mayor. Also interesting fact (I use the word fact lightly) According to the FBI only 48% of the murderers in the US ever serve time.... in recent history 50% of the IL Gov's will serve time.. so... you are more likely to go to prison if you are elected as Gov of IL than if you committ MURDER!!!! :-) I am glad I now live in South Florida... a beautiful little Banana republic where we expect our politicians to be on the take.... Look out NJ... we are coming up fast in the outer lane!!! you could be #4. nail on head True! I am so mortified that my proud home state of NJ is getting eclipsed by places like Illinois. We need a PR firm for our corruption. We need better and more newsworthy corruption. But how do you compete when your closest neighbor elects a governor who made his name tracking down prostitution rings, then gets caught in bed with a skanky $1000/hour hooker? We have our work cut out for us, all right. The trouble is that our corrupt politicians don't think big enough. We've become small-timers in the bigger scheme of things. Our guys think that a new cabin cruiser, season Jets tickets, and a couple of bimbos serving drinks in the luxury suites at Yankee Stadium is living in corrupt luxury. What we need is politicians who know what they can command in the marketplace. Maybe we can get them some help from MLB players' agents. -- Ed Huntress Ed, I think you have come up with a new profession, a corruption and take manager for politicans. The cover name for the office is political expiditer. Politicians themselves seem to blow it when it comes to being on the take. John I still think that hiring them from the ranks of MLB players' agents is the way to go. If they can get $82.5 million for A.J. Burnett, they can revolutionize New Jersey's political corruption. -- Ed Huntress I wouldn't bet my last dollar on Illinois or Lousiana being the "most corrupt" states. I dunno. I'm still cheering for NJ. But the FBI must have some basis for making the judgment. We'll have to ask them. -- Ed Huntress I see no reason to trust any agency connected to the Bush Administration Justice Department. Which is not to say I think Blago should remain in office. Do you see any good reason to cross post? -- Salmonbait I'm crosspost neutral. Once in a while, though, it does bring in a new poster more interesting than, say, the pack of jackals. How can you say you're 'crosspost neutral' if you do it? Or was that supposed to be a joke? It seems as though you try your hardest to insure you receive more than your share of insults, derogatory comments, and anger from others. That would tend to make your complaints somewhat meaningless, no? -- Salmonbait Krause has 50 people here calling him an asshole. I would say that's pretty conclusive, wouldn't you, John? I refuse to be the fifty-first. Let someone else have that honor. I'm just trying to help Harry out a little. He complains that he's picked on and therefore can't stop the insults and name-calling. I think he has at least the willpower I do. -- Salmonbait |

Some of them have far more interesting things to say here than, say, the jackals. It's not as if this is a newsgroup about boats. If you find them more interesting, why do you not go to their groups and join them. I'm sure you'd be more appreciated than you are here, and your knowledge of politics would put you at the head of the pack (not to imply that they are jackals...don't get me wrong). -- Salmonbait |
