It kinda surprised me that the helicopter was allowed to fly directly over
the campus now-a-days.
I got a kick out of it though. I spent some time (about 6 months) there
instructing
midshipmen on the basics of shipboard communications systems and procedures.

I am sure the commanders at both academies knew exactly what was going on
and approved it before hand.

I spent two years teaching math at the Military Academy Prep school when it
was here at Fort Belvoir. What a joy to teach highly motivated kids!

That experience provided the desire to be a teacher when I retired from the
Army. Wow. What a difference.

That's if anyone was sober.

That transmitter site was my last duty station in the Navy. Spent 2 years
there. The ELF was still operating but the rest of the stuff was slowly
being shut down, decommissioned and ripped out. I haven't been there for
many years and often wonder what became of the place.

An Army-Marine game would be a blood bath.

Well, apparently Navy has more Marines on it's team than they used to.

27-0 with 1:50 to go in the 4th.

Poor Army. Must have been those camo helmets. :)

Army,
of course, because they will win.

You have to admit that was a well executed op by the boys from the

Absolutely. Now I'm wondering what the squids will do in return.

Probably very little.

Probably. What those Midshipmen need is a good dose of Marine Corps
retribution...er...practical jokes. :)

Imagine what Annapolis would be like if it were the US Marine Corps

with a few squids allowed to attend. The damn place would be dangerous.

Hey, JohnH!

I'll take that bet now.

Given the dismal record of Army for the past seven years, I'm surprised a
whole bunch of folks didn't jump at an easy $5!

Gotta give you credit. Your a good LOOOSSSSSEEEEERRRRR!!!!!

The only bell bottoms I was around was when we tucked them in the top

The Marine dress uniform can't be beat. But I do like the Army's new desert

patches. I can't believe the amount of time I wasted spit shining boots and
the money I wasted getting patches sewn on.

Gosh, I remember those heady days of Cub Scouts, where we first learned
how to shine our sneakers, wipe off our buttons and exchange scarfs.
Good training for the military, apparently.

No wonder we were safe, what with you cleaning the latrine stateside
during your tour and Herring in Vietnam, making sure those nasty North
Vietnamese didn't invade Topeka and carry off all the virgins.

It is some of that, for sure. The Ranger, Airborne, Expert Infantry Badge,
and maybe one or two others are the only 'merit' badges. The shoulder
patches indicate unit affiliation, on the left, and the last combat unit
affiliation on the right. And then there's the name, US Army, and rank.
But, if a soldier comes back from Iraq and is assigned to a different unit
and gets promoted, he used to have to pay someone to sew on four new
patches on each set of fatigues (minimum 4 sets). PITA!
