OK, the Tolman is my first boat with an outboard and I thought the 90
hp Yamaha had some sort of electric choke that I had no control over.
The shop manual says nothing about any sort of choke except an auto-
choke relay. However, a friend asked me if I used the choke when I
tried to start her. "Choke"? I asked, "What Choke". It seems that
the type 703 control unit actually has a choke control built into the
key where you push it in. Tonight I'll try it.
In my defense, I did buy the motor, control unit, and instruments offa
e-bay separately and none came with any instructions or wiring diagram
so I sorta had to figure it out and I guess I still am doing so.

I mean this in a very kind and friendly way. If I had a freakin' dime
for every time I had to show somebody how to start their engine on
their new boat by pressing the key to activate the choke, I'd have
about $20 more dollars than I have. :)

It's a very common thing to do if you don't know about it. Every
Spring at the launch ramp, you see folks cranking and cranking and
cranking...

It's one of those D'Oh moments. :)

(1) The 703 has a provision for a choke.

(2) Not all Yamahas have a "choke."

Some Yamahas have an enrichment circuit.
