However, I have to admit that I find something troubling about kids that age (I think she was six?) becoming involved in high stakes competition, pressure and/or professional careers. They are kids for cripes sakes. Maybe I am wrong, but if I were one of her parents, I'd encourage her to enjoy her singing, maybe take some music and voice lessons, but keep it low-keyed until she was in her teens. It disturbs me that the possibility of adults influencing a kid at that age, exploiting a talent for financial gain exists. Eisboch |

Eisboch I agree some parents do push their kids too hard, but according to Connie she is the one who insisted her Mom sign her up. She really seems to be a very well adjusted kid. while my two girls do/did very well in school, I have a son who excels academically. When he was in high school, he took every AP class available, so that he started college as a 1 semester junior. He had a 4 yr scholarship with a per diem that more than covered his living expenses, so that he would spend the summer traveling in Europe. After 2 years, he decided he wanted to teach at the college level, and wanted to have a Ivy League degree, so he transfered to Columbia and started over as a junior. At no time did I push him to set his standards so high, that was just him. In high school, I suggested he take study hall, and he was upset with me for suggesting he take it easy. I have the feeling this girl would have been just as upset if her parents said she could not join the contest. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-c3L...degeneres_show |

Eisboch Yep, I was really put out that Earl Woods had the nerve to drive his son at such and early age to learn golf. Remember seeing him on the Johnny Carson show when the kid was 5 or 6. I thought to myself, let the kid have a childhood so he'll grow up to be something. 8) |

No - what you should have done is recognize that for concert tenors, or for most tenors actually, A above C is not only reachable, it's in their range. Most tenors can span the octave from middle C to high C very easily and without effort. And it's not A dumbass - it's B above high C. Some opera fan you are. |
