How long in the desert?

That was one of the questions asked at a breakfast meeting I attended
today with a financial services client and a couple of others across the
river in Alexandria.

More specifically, how long will the Republicans be wandering in the
desert until they can elect a president again?

Consensus: 16-20 years, minimum, and maybe never unless the party makes
significant changes in its attitudes towards Latinos, blacks, social
issues.

The financial services guy manages several funds, including a large-cap
fund. He thinks many of today's large-cap corporations will never come
back, and if there is a market rebound, the smaller corporations will
lead the way. His advice to me: stay the hell away from "the market."

Oh...the financial times we're in right now...some fund managers are
referring to it as the "Bush Recession," and others, the "Bush Depression."

If that's true then you must run with some damned stupid "fund
managers". They don't know the meaning of "recession" OR "depression"
in regards to the U.S. economy.

Sounds like an equally represented group of liberals and conservatives to
me.

Harry, are you over your rancor yet?

Rancor? Hehehe.

Eat schitt and die. Soon.

BTW, I had a nice meeting in the coffee shop at the Hotel Monaco in your

Well, if they get the "censorship doctrine" (fairness doctrine) and
keep funding voter fraud through ACORN, it could indeed be a while

If he were that hard-working a plumber, he'd be doing a lot better than
he is. Most of the working union plumbers I know, and I know a lot of
them, are making $70,000 and more a year. Joe the non-union unlicensed

He's either not very hard-working or not very skilled, or the unlicensed

Speaking of plumbers. Had the union plumber who replaced my Tramco
lift system pump out to the house again. Wrote about that before.
47 year old pump replaced. Plumber has seminary training.
Anyway the thing started chattering. HAD TO BE A BAD PUMP.
Usually only happened when draining warm water from the tub.
Very loud.
I figured something was off with impeller/casing clearances.
I even recorded the noise and played it on the phone for Peter
so he could bring a new unit, saving him a trip.
It's AT LEAST a 3 hour round trip, and his time ain't cheap.
He listens to my recording, and says he'll come out to check it.
He say's they never go bad unless they get a rag in them.
ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE!
Only one teen in the house now, and nobody here, or anybody I know
even, is stupid enough to let a rag go down the toilet.
So he drives out and gets to work. We can't duplicate the noise, even
with hot tub water.
But he hears it's not right, and pulls the pump. PITA.
Lays it down on the rags and says "There it is."
A F%^KING RAG IS IN THE PUMP.
He had to dissasemble the pump head to get what was wrapped around the
shaft past the impeller/chopper. Of course everybody denies they did
it, and I believe them.
No choice anyway. Only thing I can figure is a guest soiled their
underwear and took the easy way out. Didn't know everything goes
through a pump. Maybe I should put up a sign.
Peter worked nearly 4 hours and spent at least 3 hours in bad
Chicago/suburb traffic.
Charged me $290, apologizing.
I just said don't......you're a prince of a guy.

If he were that hard-working a plumber, he'd be doing a lot better than
he is. Most of the working union plumbers I know, and I know a lot of
them, are making $70,000 and more a year. Joe the non-union unlicensed
plumber is making less than half that, if memory serves.

He's either not very hard-working or not very skilled, or the unlicensed
plumber for whom he works is a lousy businessman.

Speaking of plumbers. *Had the union plumber who replaced my Tramco
lift system pump out to the house again. *Wrote about that before.
47 year old pump replaced. *Plumber has seminary training.
Anyway the thing started chattering. *HAD TO BE A BAD PUMP.
*We can't duplicate the noise, even
with hot tub water.
But he hears it's not right, and pulls the pump. *PITA.
Lays it down on the rags and says "There it is."
A F%^KING RAG IS IN THE PUMP.
He had to dissasemble the pump head to get what was wrapped around the
shaft past the impeller/chopper. *Of course everybody denies they did
it, and I believe them.

Nah, we never talked about any of that. Mostly plumbing stuff
and south side Catholic schools.
He does a lot of plumbing work at the schools out there, and since I
grew up near where he's at, we have some things in common.
Mostly plumbing and drain systems though.
He almost stayed for dinner, especially since the wife's Orange
chicken cooking was wafting through the house, but he had a long drive
back. Pump works good.

Harry, your line of reasoning (?) in this thread explains a lot.

Scary.

More specifically, how long will the Republicans be wandering in the

Consensus: 16-20 years, minimum, and maybe never unless the party
makes significant changes in its attitudes towards Latinos, blacks,
social issues.

The financial services guy manages several funds, including a
large-cap fund. He thinks many of today's large-cap corporations will
never come back, and if there is a market rebound, the smaller
corporations will lead the way. His advice to me: stay the hell away

Oh...the financial times we're in right now...some fund managers are
referring to it as the "Bush Recession," and others, the "Bush

Sounds like an equally represented group of liberals and conservatives to
me.

Harry, are you over your rancor yet?

Rancor? Hehehe.

Eat schitt and die. Soon.

BTW, I had a nice meeting in the coffee shop at the Hotel Monaco in your
fair city. Weird lobby decor, though. I resisted the urge to drive over
to your place and drop off a doggy bag.

Nice, wishing John dead after begging for sympathy for your dead cat.
