Canoe memories

When I was in college, I had no money for dating but I did have that
Grumman canoe and lots of girls from S. FL who wanted to be outdoorsy.
Soooooooo, costing almost no money and they always thought it was
romantic. N. FL is filled with isolated rivers with crystal clear
springs that nobody can resist swimming in. "You didnt bring a
bathing suit, No problem, there's nobody around". Even if they did
have a bathing suit, not much better than a cutie in crystal clear icy
spring water in a skimpy bathing suit who is cold.
My first date with my wife was in that old Grumman, got me a woman who
loves outdoors, worked great.

My first date with my wife Kathy was in that canoe and was a
disaster. It was on the Aucilla River in late November and it started
to rain. We took much longer doing the river than expected and ended
up doing the rapid section with a flashlight. We were soaked to the
bone and did not get to our cars that night so ended up camping under
visqueen in the rain. Dead tired but finally dry under blankets under
the visqueen tarp, she mentioned being cold. Being such a great one
for reading social cues, I interpreted this as wanting to get closer
and was too tired and said "I'm just too tired for anything". She
jumps up nearly spilling the tarp full of water on me yelling "What
did you think I meant?" Fortunately, I was able to convince her it
was poor judgement due to being tired and cold.
From that date, the outdoor craziness just got worse.
