Boat wiring feedback
For years I've had people ask me where to find a wiring diagram for
their boat (and we see it asked in here every so often as well) and I've always meant to post a generic one that would apply to most situations. The fact is, there are VERY few boat companies that provide wiring diagrams for their customers (or technicians) and those of us in the field simply rely on experience and understanding of circuits to diagnose and correct anomalies. So....... I have created a rather crude one as a first version just to get it up and test it, so you guys are the first to see it and make suggestions. Things I have on my list for version 2 will include positive and negative symbols on each accessory, better sound bites, a key, and some text describing how it works. Improved graphics will come later, perhaps by trying to fit it into a diagram that looks like a boat. For now, simply click on the uncoloured (Canadian spelling) circle to activate a 'switch' and watch and listen (turn your sound on!) :-) Promise me one thing - please try and keep this thread on topic so I can gather your input without having to filter for content. Thanks! Here ya go: http://brownsmarina.com/wiring.html -- Regards, Dave Brown Brown's Marina Ltd http://brownsmarina.com/ |

I asked my son to create one in Flash to my specs. Credit where credit is due! -- Regards, Dave Brown Brown's Marina Ltd http://brownsmarina.com/ |

I hope some of the electrically-inclined here can add suggestions to make it cover more territory, and that you can implement the suggestions with the flash programming. Lucky for you most people won't do electrical work themselves, else you'd hurt your business. I've really never seen such a clear diagram, being the electrical dummy I am. --Vic |

One suggestion I have for the future updates would be to include a float switch in the bilge pump circuit and show how it is wired, both for manual and automatic operation. And, I wanna hear an engine start! :-) Eisboch |

Or am I? --Vic |

Excellent idea- that seems tricky to many people but is very simple. And, I wanna hear an engine start! :-) Not on that diagram! Engine wiring is separate from boat wiring. :-) -- Regards, Dave Brown Brown's Marina Ltd http://brownsmarina.com/ |

I suggested that perhaps he has overlook recording that one himself. Sometimes the easy answer is just TOO obvious for these techie geniuses. ;-) -- Regards, Dave Brown Brown's Marina Ltd http://brownsmarina.com/ |

One of the most useful additions would be a wiring coloUr scheme. I know that all mfgrs don't follow the recommended coloUrs, but enough of them do that having some indication would be helpful. Having a coloUr key will be most helpful when you create the engine wiring drawing. (For outboards, I/Os and inboards?) Good thing it's coming up winter when I KNOW you have nothing to do, and the time hangs heavy on your hands. (heh) --Pete Peter W. Meek http://www.msen.com/~pwmeek/ |

This is one handy tidbit. I also have the diagrams out of the shop manual for the 30-60 4 stroke http://esteroriverheights.com/electr...color_code.pdf Parker provides a decent wiring diagram with its boats: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...s/44b042bf.jpg This was the original that came in the owner's package. I've since updated it with the electronics we added. It seems good enough to me. |
