Hi there,
I have this AH 4000, the clutch lever doesn't work, and I don't know
how to take apart the drive unit "doughnut". That's the part that
attaches to the wheel. The lever that engages the pilot is not
engaging. So I figure there's a belt or something in there, not sure,
but want to see the mechanical parts to inspect, correct, repair. Any
suggestions on dismantling this piece?
thanks,
Luc

How about reading the manual that you can download fromwww.raymarine.com?

I did read the manual, no information on dismantling the drive unit.

I have a copy of the manual with dismantling instructions, apparently AH
used to supply a pair of doughnut parting levers. I could scan the
relevant part and e-mail it to you if you want.

Go to a chandler and buy the replacement belt.

This comes with instructions.

Yes they do fail after a few years.

The front part just snaps over the rollers which are attached to the back
section. You just pry it off. If the clutch is not engaging it could be
the belt or the clutch mechanism. There are split pins in the system and
sometimes these shear off. Now the clutch shaft rotates but doesn't drive
the eccentric wheel that tensions the belt. Raymarine sells a rebuild kit
for the clutch, something like $75US. Just call an authorized repair centre
as listed on the Raymarine website.
