Maretron WSO100 - NMEA 2000® Ultrasonic Wind / Weather Station

Has anyone used this product? What was your experience ? Is this much

better than the mechanical version (e.g. a ST-60 wind machine) ?

Do you need the Maretron display, or are the Raymarine E-80 charplotter

and ST-60 wind machine displays fine if you just want apparent or true
wind speed ?

Thank you for your time to respond

I have not tried this product, but have instead used the AirMar
equivalent. It contains wind, barometric pressure, compass, and GPS.
All NMEA 0183 output. Anything that displays NMEA works for it, we use
a Furuno RD-30 display to go with it. Also, we use a Shipmodul
Miniplex-42BT so we can pick the data up on a computer.

Anything that DISPLAYS the data might work, but what about getting it set
up? A lot of NMEA2k gear requires their own brand display to get their
sensors configured (lowrance for example). I spoke with some Maretron folks
at the Annapolis boat show and they're aware of this hassle. They indicated
their intention to use their USB-NMEA2k bridge to handle a lot of this sort
of stuff. That'd be good but I have no idea if they've made progress on
that intention. I'll say this however, the Maretron folks were the most
savvy and forthcoming of the bunch. Other vendors (at least their booth
personnel) were considerably less informed or outright dismissive at the
idea of using other devices in conjuction with their sensors.

That said, I too would like to know more about getting the Maretron stuff
setup with other gear.

Maretron WSO100 - NMEA 2000® Ultrasonic Wind / Weather Station

Bill,

I have installed a Maretron WSO and interfaced (via Simrad AT10) to a
Furuno 1920C. Everything works as expected except that wind direction
can only be displayed in relative/apparent on the Furuno unit.

The Maretron DSM200 will display the wind in Relative or True. The WSO
unit sends out wind data with Relative reference. If a heading device
is present on the N2k network then True will be calculated and
displayed by/on the DSM200 unit. Actually in this configuration the
heading device is on the Navnet side and the heading data is being
converted/passed to the N2k network via the AT10.

I talked to Furuno support and they told me that the 1920C unit expects
to receive wind information in the appropriate MWV (R or T) sentence.
The MWV/R sentence (from the WSO) is being passed to the Furuno unit
and therefore that is what is being displayed, they do not calculate
True from heading information.

The DSM200 being a display head device does not pass on any calculated
information.

Regards,

Bill
