Power Trim Question

I have a 1999 Mercruiser Alpha ! Gen II sterndrive. The power trim does not
go up with the shift mounted control, but does activate with the TRAILER
button.

The service manual suggests that the switch may be faulty. I also have some
trouble shooting info in the manual to try. The trim pump is located in a
hard to get at location. before I try to get at the pump, I though I would
ask the group for suggestions.

Thanks in advance....

Dave

Dave, if it works from the trailer button, doesn't that eliminate the pump
as a potential culprit?

Check the switch, the connectors to it (corrosion), look for a pinched lead
between it and the stern.

Power Trim Question

I though about that after I sent the post - I was concerned that the TRAILER
switch ran a different circuit in the pump which allows the drive to extend
past the limit switch. I am trying to eliminate the pump as the problem and
possibly focus on a simple failed switch in the controller.

Power Trim Question

I had this happen before on an older alpha 1. There are 2 trim sensors.
One on each side of the gimble (where the outdrive pivots). One sends the
trim position, the other (I think left side) is to set the highest point you
want the trim to come up before you need to use the trailer button. I ended
up taking both switchs apart and cleaning them up, and using die electrical
compound since there was a bit of corrosion. You then need to adjust them.
the siwtches are slotted at the screews so you can turn them. After that it
was fine.

I had the shift-mounted switch fail on my 115 Yamaha outboard.
It was easy to replace and fixed the problem.
