GPS Plotter/Sounder with Fuel Flow??

I've just moved from Aviating to Boating and hope this is a somewhat
more affordable endeavor. In aviation, almost all of the GPSs
integrate with fuel flow. It appears to me that Navman seems to
produce the only plotter/sounders under a grand that integrates with
fuel flow. Am I overlooking something?

If someone has some other suggestions, I'm all ears.

thanks,

ted

A couple of things -

A boat will generally carry enough fuel for a few day's operation, so
we're not too concerned about how much is left.

If we do run out, it is less of a problem in a boat than in an
aircraft (although still undesirable.)

Sailors may only need to fuel every couple of weeks while cruising (I
once went a full calendar year between fuellings!)

On a more fuel-hungry power boat, I had a fuel flow meter that showed
fuel use in litres/hour, and kept a record of fuel used, so I could
plan to be near a fuel dock before the tank was too low.

thanks,

ted

GPS Plotter/Sounder with Fuel Flow??

I have never seen a combo unit although my garmin does allow me to INPUT
my burn rate and it will figure out range for me. If you want a
flowmeter, go to Flowscan. back when I had gas engines I had one and it
was VERY accurate. I would go through about 250 gallons and the
totalizer would show +- .3 gallons. Great tool IF you plan on cruising
the boat near it's limits. If the boat has gas fuel injected twins,
you are talking a lot of money (4 sensors required) If you are not
planning on that type of use, don't waste your money.

The Lowrance units with NMEA2000 Lowancenet will hook up to the accessory
fuel flow module. LMS332/334/337/339 units. Cost between 600 and 700
not counting the add ons.
