Windows CE and Charts

I got a PDA with Windows CE and an internal GPS, I use Nobeltec software to
viem my marine charts on my laptop. I was wondering is there any apps that
will run in WinCE and view my marine charts.

Thanks, and merry xmas.

You ve said that you are already viewing the charts on Nobletec, so what it
wrong with that?

Ozi Explorer-CE does a good job, it will user raster charts like the
MapTech BSB charts. The charts have to be converted using Ozi Explorer
PC before they can be used with Ozi Explorer-CE.

The trial version of Ozi Explorer did the conversion of the Maptech
charts for me, did I did not need to buy both Ozi PC and Ozi CE. I
think this is because the MapTech charts either contain or are
accompanied by another file with the chart calibration data. If you
don't have that data, you may need the registered version of Ozi
Explorer PC to import or scan map images and calibrate them yourself.

As the Ozi Explorer site recommends, try it with the trial versions
first to make sure it all works. The conversion process seems a little
convoluted at first but once you get your chart library converted you
don't need to do it again.

It is a pretty nifty little program, it will shift to adjoining charts
automatically as you proceed. Building routes and placing waypoints is
best done on a PC with a mouse, keyboard, larger display, etc., but once
that is done the routes can be transferred to the CE version for use.

Thanks, and merry xmas.

And the same to you Sir!

Ozi is the only one I have seen that runs CE. Many run pocket PC. If the PDA
happens to be a Panasomnic CF-P1 it will run Ozi.

I'm not familiar with that particular device, the Panasonic web site

http://phonearena.com/htmls/Panasoni...one-p_852.html

tells me it is one of the newer telephone also PDA and and that it runs
Microsoft Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition OS Version 2003.

There has been a non-stop, semi-bewildering, series of changes for the
names of PDA operating systems. The kernel for all of them is Windows
Compact Edition (Windows-CE) so, whatever else they may be called, PDA
are also sometimes called or referred to as Windows CE devices.

http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/wce/versions.htm

So Ozi calling itself "Ozi-CE" probably implies or engenders
compatibility with any and all of the above versions. But, like the
site says, try it and buy it if it works.

The Panasonic CF P1 has been around for awhile. Early editions were CE .
They recently migrated to pocket PC.

Lots of folk picked them up cheap on ebay and then found out that is wasn't
Pocket PC and were disapointed by the lack of available software.
