Garmin 45 went broken

Couls anybody help me to send me the schematic of this model or tell
me which is the type of this component?

That is a transistor...or regulator IC...or voltage inverter...it's very
hard to tell in surface mount parts these days. The component marked, 11S
X, right up over your arrow that's black, is a similar component case, but
not necessarily the component.

Because of its proximity to the filter coil above it and the big
electrolytic capacitor, I'd say it was probably power supply related. As
it is MELTED, we may assume its load is shorted, or way to heavy, in some
way. So, replacing this component will, probably, result in another melted
component just like it.

The little resistor at 5 o'clock from it also looks like it overheated.
The top towards the melted part looks discolored.

As to Garmin, I'm afraid I have a different opinion. My Garmin VHF walkie
got water inside its submersible case a few years back. Garmin sent me a
whole new unit, complete with all new accessories. They've sent my captain
a new Garmin 185 after his failed. They even paid the shipping on a UPS
pickup at my home. The 45 is awfully old, now. Garmin has no parts, I
assume, as it's way beyond its life expectancy. Your Chevy dealer has no
parts to fix your '66 Impala, either. Try to get a trim panel for your
1986 Sea Ray from your dealer, too. It cost a lot more than that little
GPS.

Hi!

My Garmin 45 went broken so that it works well, but it is not contact with
PC.
I found the problem, one transistor? is broken. Look picture in attachment.

Garmin service does not repair GPS at all, they only sells to yuo a new
machine....:o(

Couls anybody help me to send me the schematic of this model or tell me
which is the type of this component?

Looks like one of the switchers in the Power Supply shorted out
and fried.... Best bet is to find out what shorted out, before
replacing the switcher.....

Nice Picture...

Pete,
I have never had success repairing either the GPS 4X or GPS X Garmin.
Did you try E-bay? You can set it up to watch a catagory and tell you
when a 45 or better still a 48 shows up.
By the By, when you get the board fixed, you still have to close the
case back up BFPITA.
