Garmin Gps/Plotters NMEA DSE
As Garmin put this week firmware updates to ALL marine chart plotters,
almost just to include the Extended DSC NMEA Message (DSE), it would be nice if anybody expert in NMEA could tell us an explanation of this message. Thanks Pascal |
Not quite ALL. There wasn't an update for the 162.

Well, I forget to say "almost" ALL "current" marine chartploters, as
the 162 (and my old GpsMap130) are listed in Garmin WP as "discontinued" models. I do not care about this, because I have a "new" GpsMap 276C. Regards Pascal |
I did a bunch of googling.
1. The DSE sentence is output by the radio and received by the chartplotter. I'm going to conjecture that it has more precision than the DSC sentence. What gets transmitted over the airwaves by DSC only has position to on minute of lat/lon. While that's probably fine for somebody 100 miles offshore, in coastal water it's not good enough. I'm conjecturing that the DSE sentence is part of the solution to that. 2. There are a LOT of porn sites with NMEA and DSE in their pages. "Chuck Tribolet" wrote in message ... Not quite ALL.
