standard Horizon Quantum & Raymarine Sportpilots interference

Hi, List
I have a peculiar problem , when my Standard Horizon is listening on
Ch16 and the sportspilot is on, after some time ( anything from 5 to 30
mins) I get interference breakthrough on the radio, which even at
maximum squelch cant stop it. The interference starts breaking through
at normal squelch levels first and breaks through intermittingly then
graduly its breaks through at maximum squelch and the radio is
unusable.

The radio is about 1 foot from the autopilot as thats all space there
is on the console. I've tried ferrites in the leads, moving the power
leads away from each other etc. all to no avail.

All suggestion welcome!.

Dave

You don't happen to have an Adler-Barbour 12V ice box insert, do you? This
interference sounds exactly like what the Adler-Barbour used to do to every
marine VHF on the Endeavour 35 Cap'n Geoffrey used to own. Drove us crazy
until I found out what was making that regular....
Bzzzt...Bzzzt............Bzzzt..Bzzt..Bzzt......(r epeats) on channel 16 and
no other channels.

FCC needs to step in and do its job on all this pleasure marine
crap....There's way too much radiation from unbalanced, unshielded NMEA,
electronic appliance controls, NMEA manufacturers cheap marine crapware.
