Security Chipping my Boat

Hi,

I am interested in security chipping my boat, something that can be fitted
secretly and if the boat is stolen will transmit its position to enable
recovery.

Is such an item available for this purpose in the UK and if so any idea
approximately of cost.

I was thinking along the lines of something similar to the tags attached to
criminals who are out in the community.

TIA

Eddie.

I've fitted an Inmarsat D+ unit to my father's boat. It's more for safety in
case he has a problem while he is out fishing (has panic button) but could
also be used for security against theft I guess. It's about the size of a
sandwich & needs 9V-30V so it would need to be plugged in all the time. In a
fibreglass boat it can be pretty covert.
The units cost about US$500 & about US$10/month including the tracking fees -
my father's unit transmits every hour when outside the property line of the
house.

If you are within cellphone coverage you could just get something like a
Trimble TrimTrac I guess.

This is interesting...

Yes, that can work with the TrimTrac as well, but it appears to be a Canadian
or at least North American solution, limited to the following carriers:

Nextel
Southern LINC
TELUS Mobility (MIKE)
T-Mobile

Not necessarily much good for the UK! :-)
