House Batteries

Hi
I have a single 110 Ah House battery which Id like to enhance.
Do I have to use additional 110s ?
Is there a technical reason why I shouldnt add a couple of 70's for example
?
Thanks

Not if you have the room.
Remove "nospam" from return address.

Wouldn't it matter if the new batteries were paralleled , or
series-paralleled into a single bank with the existing battery?

I recall having read this is inadvisable due to dissimilar charging
requirements of the "members" of a bank of batteries. Also remember
that putting new batteries into the same leg of a battery bank with
older ones is inadvisable for the same reason.

Pardon my butting in here.

I agree with Cal. There is supposed to be some reason that the weakest
cell of a battery can bring the whole system down to its level, so it's
recommended to use the same batteries in a bank.

Steve,
Regarding a house battery bank consisting of more than one battery, it is
recommended that you use the same model battery and that each battery is the
same age. Don't mix and match the batteries because it will have a negative
impact on the life of the bank. The new battery will constantly discharge
into the older battery.

I have 8 6volt deep cycle lead acid batteries and just replaced the set
after 10 years of use.

Also, don't let the batteries ever go below 11.5 volts which is a 50%
discharge. Discharging the batteries below 50% also degrades the battery
life.

If you have an auto start battery dedicated to starting your engine do not
have this battery in parallel with your house bank unless you are charging
the system from an external power source such as a charger or your
alternator.

Hope This Helps,
David Moore
