garmin newbe question

Hi all
Just bought a Garmin 180 gps sounder map and a Garmin 240 blue fishfinder.
1 Can I connect both the sets so they can be used together and how?.
2 Is there freeware out there that I can use to download the information
from the sets so as I can store and edit or save the waypoints/routes ect.
on my home pc?.And how would a complete beginner do this.

I have used a free program called Waypoint +. Go to -

Instructions are all there.

Check Garmin's web site. I use MapSource Roads and Recreation with my two
handhelds. Plan routes on the PC, save tracks from the handhelds. Easy to
use. Having routes of frequently traveled areas made it easy to get home
when caught in the fog. I just followed the GPS, using radar to watch for
other boats, buoys and the shoreline.

There are several programs that will talk to Garmin receivers listed
on my GPS/NMEA site shown below.

You will not be able to connect both units to the same depth
transducer, but you may be able to use a switch to select one at a
time to the transducer.
