Not extremely recent, (about a year old, I think) but maybe helpful just the
same:

You might try epinions.com. Maybe I'll post this comment there.
I just bought a lowrance LMS320 and Mapcreate 6 I couldn't be happier.
Just came back from a trip on the gulf coast and it worked very well.
I just let it do its thing with the automagic settings. Its got lots
of bells and whistles so if you get something like this I'd recommend
hooking up to a 12v ac adapter so that you can sit in an easy chair
and try out the capabilities in the comfort of your home while not
having to be conerned about fishing or where you might be drifting.

Good luck. I think between Garmin and Lowrance you can't go wrong. I
picked Lowerance because it uses industry standard MMC cards and a one
time buy of Mapcreate got all the maps I could want. I think if a
color display was important albeit at more $$$ the Garmin units might
have more to offer. I drew the line at ~$650 and it seemed that the
LMS320 got me the most at that $ point.
