AM radio noise

What steps do the group suggest I take to try to eliminate noise that virtually
obliterates AM radio reception.

It emanates from the AC side of my new AC/DC fridge. When the unit runs on DC
only power, the radio is clean. When I switch on AC, I get a loud high pitched
noise that sounds like the old "heterodyne whistle" of early radio days.

What kind of filter do I need and where do I put it??

Perhaps the question should first be addressed to the manufacturer of your
new refrigerator. I doubt that AM broadcast-band noise was a major sales
feature.

Put a power supply filter on the radio. You can get one at Radio Shack.

thnx everyone...working on the radio shack parts angle..
meanwhile...I may have paid add'l for the noise as an "added consumer benefit"
g... you may know how much more AC/DC under counter fridges cost than
straight AC units... 8 times the cost just for the electronic module to
convert AC to DC -- and make AM radio noise.

Well, it might be reassuring to be able to monitor your refrigerator
operation from any location on, or near, your boat. For years now, I have
been able to use my kitchen range vent fan switch to control my outside
security lights. Some might think that to be a lack of electromagnetic
compatibility; I think of it as a convenience feature.
