Autohelm 4000 GP tiller pilot fault

My 4000 GP works reasonably when the boat is motoring, changing course as
normal, however as soon as any weatherhelm is created the boat drifts off
course, the 4000 displays the offcourse error but makes no attempt to
correct it. Raytheon has replaced the control head on numerous occasions and
even been on board and witnessed the problem - simply sending a new uprated
plus head which developed the same problem within a few weeks. The only part
of the autopilot not replaced is the flux gate compass, but this seems to
work fine. The unit when new worked very well and this problem developed
after a couple of years. Voltages at the input side of the head are in
excess of 12 v. Anyone have any solutions

What makes you think its not the compass causing the problem?

Thecompass display on the control unit displays the heading and the off
course error as well as the radar dispalying the heading picked up from sea
talk supplied by the control unit
