Default Pirates seize ship carrying tanks, ammo

Hummmmmmmm

(CNN) -- A Ukrainian ship carrying tanks and ammunition has been seized
by pirates off the coast of Kenya, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry told
CNN..................

................The Russian patrol ship Neustrashimy, which left
Wednesday for the coast off Somalia, may help crack down on pirates, a
source in the Russian Baltic Fleet headquarters told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

And the Russian Navy's commander, Adm. Vladimir Vysotsky, told Interfax
that Russia plans to send combat ships to the Somali coast to fight piracy.

"We have such plans for the near future," he said. "However, Russian
ships will not be involved in any international operations. They will do
this job on their own."

Trust those pinkos to interfere with the Free Market! Freedom loving,
entrepreneurial Somalian fishermen have devised an innovative new
financial instrument that converts a small investment in boats and
RPGs into T-35 tanks and now the Regulators from Big Government are
using Taxpayer Money to butt in. They're Socializing the Sea!
Government isn't the solution, it's the problem!

First they need to devise a method of selling off parts of the tanks
(actually T-72's I notice) since the international language is French,
let's call them tranches... Oh hell...

More OT, the article in the NY Times is interesting
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/27/wo...irates.html?em.

The report says the pirates are operating with virtual impunity from
mother ships hundreds of miles off the coast. That seems to pretty
much close the horn of Africa to cruisers. I guess Cape Town is going
to be a really popular place.

Did you notice that the pirates have a spokesman (who was not available for

Yeah, I pictured an elegant, bespectacled man in a bespoke suit
reminding some loved ones that there are only so many appendages that
can be amputated from a soul before that person retreats to the
ultimate spiritual form.

I gather the asking tariff per is in six figures so just paying them
with your FastTrak as you go by isn't really an option.

Instead????

Wednesday off the coast of the coast of St. Pierre and Miquelon (A
French territory in the Gulf of St. Lawrence near Newfoundland,
Canada) a Danish ship carrying tanks and ammunition has been seized by
pirates.

A French naval ship Le Marsellaise has left Calais for the east coast
of North America, according to a Reuters report, and may be heading to
help crack down on the pirates.

France also says it may send other combat ships to fight such piracy.
But warned that French ships will not be involved in any
international operation; a clear warning to the USA not to interfere
in a situation which although the St. Pierre and Canadian waters are
close, is an an area not under the the jurisdiction of the United
States.

Admiral Le Pompous said that as an ally of Denmark and a co-member of
the European Economic Union, French ships will do the job on their
own.
